Default Is Snyder's DCEU Trilogy the worst Superhero film trilogy?

MOS, BvS, and JL have been some of the most polarizing films in recent CBM history. Unlike most superhero trilogies, not a single one of these films have had universal acclaim. Would you say its the worst Superhero film trilogy?

Since Schumacher never finished his Batman trilogy, probably. But even then, I guess, one could argue that Batman Forever might have not been a good film, but at least was entertaining - something Snyder never managed to accomplish.

Webb also never had a chance to finish his AS-M trilogy. I honestly don't remember much about both AS-M movies, but I remember I hated them, even though not as much as BvS.

The Matrix trilogy comes close, I think. But a lot of people like the first one. There are a lot of similarities, though. Pretentious movies that try to be smarter than they actually are, pseudo-philosophical post-it notes under a thick layer of crowdpleasing visuals. Then again, one could argue that the Matrix movies are not superhero movie in the sense that they are CB adaptations.

At the moment I struggle to come up with another trilogy as bad as Snyder's. It is a good question that I can't answer yet. I have the tendency to say, "Yes, it's the worst", but I'm not sure if I'm missing something

To even call this a trilogy is questionable.

I still don't know how it's really a "trilogy" that'd be like saying The Winter Soldier, Civil War and Infinity War is a trilogy since the Russos directed all 3

I haven't seen Justice League, but unless it's especially bad, no. I like all three Raimi Spider-Man movies less than Man of Steel or BvS.

MY first thought is surely there is a worse superhero trilogy out there, but the more I think about it I can't think any other one. Yes, unfortunately it is the worst CBM trilogy out there. The characters deserved so much better.

Can we consider JL a Snyder film? I mean, it was altered in a major way.

Definitely. All of the other comparably bad superhero franchises ended at one or two films.

The only exception I can think of is if we count Transformers. Then that is worse. But I think most of us wouldn't count it since it isn't a traditional superhero franchise.

Without doubt. Snyder is second only to Bay as an insubstantial filmmaker.

At least Bay knows the type of director he is. I genuinely don't know if Snyder is aware of his short comings.

Not sure how Snyder thought he was growing up Superman. His Superman seemed to come off as a frightened child rather than an adult who wanted to contribute to society.

hear hear. I can't fathom how after Man of Steel some idiotic executives at Warner Bros thought that he was fit to direct anything else, let alone to mastermind their superhero universe with potential billions riding on it. Then they green lit JL after BvS? Unfathomable stupidity and they deserve to lose their jobs for it.

One thing is for certain, this whole era of DC films will go down as one of the biggest embarrassing blunders in cinema history. The only franchise I can think of that could have resulted in an even bigger blunder would have been the Lord of the Ring trilogy. Imagine Fellowship being received badly with two films left to go.

His conception of grown up is what a teen's conception of grown up is.

Yep.

One average movie.
One terrible movie.
One shoddy movie.

The levels of embarrassment these films have brought to DC fandom (in more ways than one) will take a long time to get over.

Zaddy **** the bed.

Yeah and looking over at the defenses of his style, his movies and even irrefutable facts like BO collections at another forum here as well as elsewhere online, I fear his "fans" have much pretty much the same "thought process". I kinda actually hope most of them are in fact 13 year olds.

Snyder has one thing going for him as a director and that's his visual aesthetic. If he had stuck to art direction, photography, camerawork I feel he would have achieved the levels of greatness he seems to so desperately seek.

How can it be when we have Nolans Trilogy? XD

I dont want to use the word worst, i rather use the word weakest.
The Movies simply fall behind what they could have been.
I enjoy them everytime i watch them, but i know about the flaws of MOS, BvS and JL.

Snyders ideas for this were good...but his execution didnt work for those characters.

So, here's a question:

Can anyone actually think of a worse big budget, major studio movie trilogy in general?

I can't.

No, it's far away from being the worst, BUT it's not Snyder's trilogy as such, it's two of his films and one completed by 'other sources'.

Yeah, I think saying it's entirely Snyder's vision won't be the whole truth. They said Snyder added 15-20% of new material, but it's in addition to how much stuff was removed.
