I'd say its a *little* more than that. The two things, above all else, that the show needed were:

1. Good kung fu action

2. Good kung fu story

Which is to say, it doesn't just need better stunt fighting. It also needs writing that better brings the stunt fighting to the forefront of the work. The kung fu genre is all about using story as an excuse to string together balletic fight scenes, and Scott Buck leaned *away* from the genre, rather than into it. Probably because he had no clue what he was doing.

I'm just waiting for Scott Buck to film a Bruce Lee biopic with no kung fu in it. It will just be about Lee having business meetings to set up his kung fu school.

Agree on all points.

I just remembered RDJ knows more kung fu than Finn Jones. RDJ practices a form of kung fu in real life doesn't he?

RDJ already went blackface in Tropic Thunder. Now he can put on a fake beard and go Finn face and play both Iron Man and Iron Fist.

what's the likely storyline for season 2?

will we see more of Davos? Are we gonna get more or less of the Meachums? I can't decide if they're a positive or negative.

Davos and Joy now want to kill Danny for some random and unexplained reason.

Even though Joy was completely against killing up until that point and it wasn't even part of her character.

she was so boring last season. I hope they reduce the Meachums this year. Bring someone else in.

I admit that I haven't a clue what was happening with Joy at the end of the season, as I completely tuned her out. But Davos reasoning for wanting to kill Danny was hardly random or unexplained. It's clear that Davos already harbored some resentment towards Danny, an outsider, being the IF. Danny essentially choosing Colleen and this foreign world over KL is what ultimately turned Davos against him. And for me, the Danny/Davos teamup and conflict was the highlight of the season. I look forward to more of them in S2.

The problem is that the Meachums were hardly consistently written or relatable. I don't look forward to seeing more of them.

I don't mind the Meachums. The writing for them was all over the place but I still found them somewhat entertaining.

I didn't like Davos.

I'm a fan of Sacha Dhawan as an actor. I liked Dhawan work in Last Train, Line Of Duty, the History Boys and 24.

I just don't think Dhawan was the right casting for Davos. Davos came of as whiny and not intimidating which makes me feel Dhawan is going to have a uphill battle trying to play Davos as a threatening villain in the future.

Nah..Davos came off as badass to me. His intro added a level of intrigue/mystery to his character that I enjoyed.

Joy was the only Meachum I didn't really care for. Ward was a standout to me and Harold had his moments too.

Davos can apparently turn tin foil into deadly shuriken throwing stars...and yet he never does anything like this ever again...why? How is he able to do this? Why does he do this? Why does this never come up again?

The writing of the character was very flawed.

So because we didn't see that again, the writing is very flawed? Huh? That is quite a reach. They have another whole season to further explore his character.

Harold was such a weak villain. The actor did the best he could, but the writing downplayed his effectiveness. I'd have enjoyed it if he didn't die or at least not in such a cliche "villainy manner"

Why establish he has such an ability in the story without referencing or using something similar later? That's not good writing. That's basically a Bullseye level ability. And he never uses it again.

So? Not everything about a character needs to be explained, certainly not in the first season and definitely not with a character who was introduced in the back half of said season. The show isn't about Davos, he wasn't even among the main supporting characters until the last 3 or 4 episodes. Perhaps wait to see how his character will be further developed before complaining about how such and such wasn't shown again or explained?

So that was sort of a useless thing to showcase and set up without ever bringing up anything similar ever again.

Lol Nope. I didn't see it as setting up anything. I'm almost certain the point was just to give him a cool intro that makes the audience take notice. I never got the sense that this was some defining character ability, just a skill he possesses. If it's showcased again, great but the fact that it wasn't is hardly a sign of bad writing.

I think its impossible to predict what will happen in season 2, until we see what happens in Defenders. Especially since we have reason to believe Netflix will try to shift direction/fix up the crap that Scott Buck did.

Respectfully Faith Cassidy, I have to disagree. We don't have to agree on everything though.

Alice Eve joining Season 2 of Iron Fist. Role is being kept under wraps, though.
