How does Star's TV version compare to the comic version so far?

The performance is pretty spot-on. They change up the origin a bit and give him a full name, but Pip Torrens couldn't be more perfect.

Yup. It's like a Kingsmen style alternate world.

One of the worst shows on tv and an overall poor adaptation. For this to work, they really needed to nail Jesse's character. Impossible to do that when you cast a charisma vacuum like Dominic Cooper in the role. The guy SUCKS. He's boring as hell and his accent is awful(imagine Andrew Lincoln but much worse). It also has that terrible problem that a lot of AMC shows suffer from where large portions of each episode seem to be filled with banal conversations that serve as filler to pad the run time. Cassidy's actor is okay but they screwed up ditching the sunglasses. Tulip is also decent. But the trio never works - never really feels like there's chemistry.

I'm really trying to like the show, i really am LOL
They butchered Jesse's character which is definitely a problem. Casting a crappy actor like Cooper doesn't help.

I don't see what's so bad about Cooper ( the characterization irks me sometimes, but the performance itself ain't bad at all ) but... K.

I'm starting to agree. The season started off fine for me but it's been losing me ever since. I was actually disappointed that there are 13 episodes this season as opposed to ten. Maybe that's a sign I need to throw in the towel.

Herr Starr is in the show now.

The Saint Of Killers is going to come back more furious than ever.

The Angelville story has been hinted at throughout the season.

And there's a possibility that ****ing Hitler is going to escape hell.

But yeah, sure, nothing is happening.... Whatever .

I never read the comics so I can't comment on the faithfulness to the source material, but I really liked the show last year, and the first few episodes from this year, but right now I feel the show has gone off the rails. Part of the problem is that the story lines are all over the place. I liked the Saint of Killers chasing them, but now they've gone on to this German dude with the nipple rings being the bad guy. It's just all over the place. They throw in snippets about the backstory to the three main characters, but never really go anywhere with it.

There just seems to be a real drop in the quality of the writing from the first season to this one.

That's basically the main villain of the original story. He's kinda , ya know... Important. And he's fantastic. Hilarious villain.

I don't have a problem with Cooper as Jesse Custer, but the material he's given to work with leaves much to be desired.

I will say that Herr Starr is damn near pitch perfect though. They got that ish right.

I do kinda like the way they're building up the Angelville storyline. That is one thing that they CANNOT screw up.

They will mess with it. They have messed with everything. I have made my peace with that.

Look, just as even Garth Ennis himself said :

Quote:
There was a screenplay written at one point. I think Sam Mendes commissioned it, and it was written by a chap named John August. And it was actually quite faithful – too faithful, actually. It taught me the lesson that it's far too easy to overload this. If you do a straight adaptation, you are simply going to overload the story with grotesque characters and over-the-top bloodbath fight scenes. You're going to create a whirling maelstrom that will simply bewilder a mainstream audience. It has to do with the difference in form between the screen and the page. That's the problem that I think Sam Catlin and his team have solved, which is really pacing. That's the main difference between comic and TV.

Basically, a straight forward, carbon based copy of the comics just wouldn't translate that well to screen, and in my personal opinion, it'd be predictable and boring, since I already know what happened in the comics, so therefore, I'll already know what happens in the show . The spirit of the comics is what's important, and I'd say they've done well in keeping that, and when they DO give out some shoutouts and borrow story points from the comics, it's all the better to me, because you don't exactly expect it as much .

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Like the assrape of Herr Starr last episode. If you seriously think that they haven't nailed Herr Starr thus far, then idk if we're even watching the same damn show.

Here's what I kinda think might happen in the show, however :

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Jesse could end up in hell somehow, and that flashback of being in the coffin underwater will be his hell.

They left the spirit of Jesse and Tulip behind. And considering Preacher is their story, I don't think they have captured the spirit of the books at all.

GoT is a good example most of the time of adapting material. Jackson's LotR, a fine example. Changes are fine, but leaving the characters behind is not a good adaptation of the material. They have basically given them the Snyder treatment.

Did you miss the bit where I said, "I made peace with that"? I am watching it, not as a Preacher show. Because it isn't.
