Thousands of votes. I have yet to see some stats that show any divisiveness with TDKR. It's all hyperbole. The movie is liked by the majority.

TDKR is very popular. It just had an impossible act to follow.

I have such weird feelings with TDKR. I was very underwhelmed by it when I first saw it, and for a period of about 6 months, I tried to ignore the feeling of disappointment, and pretend that I loved it. Similar to Indiana Jones 4.

Then through 2013-2015 I started having more and more problems with TDKR, to the point of outright disliking it.

And now after suffering through the two DC movies last year, I'm starting to warm up to TDKR a bit and appreciate it more.

I guess you're right. Maybe I just see TDKR hate in certain places on the internet.

I think you don't see much TDKR hate on here, because in the past, if you said anything against it, you were hit with a tidal wave of posters telling you how wrong you were for daring to say such a thing. It made many people say to hell with it, I'll discuss other things.

yeah that's eased off quite a bit now though
I've had a few decent conversations recently about my disappointment in TDKR and haven't gotten flamed too bad for it

Like I said just a loud minority. Nothing more. The numbers don't show a divisiveness anywhere.

The Tivo thread was full of TDKR and Nolan fans.

TDKR is an entertaining and memorable film, that could use a few more drafts to polish it's rough edges. It's overrated by critics and audiences, it's not as good as BB and especially as TDK, but it's not a bad CBM for sure. Not many of them are as memorable and captivating as TDKR.

A kind of different, decent at best Batman movie that no one would really talk about much.
There are a lot of movies that are made with the upcoming movie in mind. My least favorite of the 3 was TDKR. I don't think the movies were meant as complete standalones and each helped the others. LotR is a more dramatic example of this.

Loved BB and the take on his origin.

That is because there are new Batman movies to defend.

I don't know, I think that was mostly in the initial few months after release, when everyone was still in "TDKR did worse than Avengers? Betrayal!" mode. Once the shock at Marvel actually beating out DC wore off, I saw a *lot* of discontent with TDKR. If anything, I see more dislike here than in the other communities I follow.

McAvoy and Fassbender carry that film.

Guardians Of The Galaxy to me is overrated and gets way too much praise for essentially being another Star Wars formulaic rip-off and the incessant need to pepper it with hints of the Infinity Gems because "ohh we gotta put this in to tease Thanos".

I can agree with Ivan and Henz regarding First Class, better than the last two films when it first came out, but not even in the X-Men top 3.

I haven't watched GOTG since the theaters but yeah I can agree with Mace as well. Have to watch it again to make sure.

Definitely Guardians of the Galaxy from Marvel, just too vanilla for my taste, then with DC, TDK trilogy and the early Batman films. They aren't just that entertaining and rewatchable for me.

Oh boy this thread is perfect for me.

Superman the Movie (I respect what it did for the genre though, I just don't particularly like it, Reeve is the best part of the movie but it feels like he is barely in it)
Superman II
Superman Returns (a lot of people don't like it, but it still has it's fair share of defenders to this day)
Batman 89
Batman Returns
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2
X-Men
X-Men 2
X-Men Days of Future Past
Batman Begins (though it's still my favourite of the Nolan Bat movies)
The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight Rises
Iron Man
The Avengers (I loved it at the time but I think it's already aged poorly and Age of Ultron just seems more like a real movie even though it re-treads a lot of the same ground)
Ant-Man
Doctor Strange
Batman v Superman
Suicide Squad (I know a lot of people hate this and BvS, but there are also a lot of really passionate people who love them and that is baffling to me)

And I know these aren't films but while I'm at it I'll also add:

The Flash
Arrow
Supergirl
Legends of Tomorrow
Smallville
Gotham
Agents of Shield
Agent Carter
Jessica Jones (Ritter and Tenant are amazing but everything around them is disappointing, boring/incredibly annoying side characters and bland cinematography)
Luke Cage (Seriously, what the hell were they thinking with Diamondback?)

I guess I'm just hard to please. I do love complaining about stuff though.

At least I'm self aware.

Also I just want to point out I don't hate everything I listed. Some of it I hate, some I'm apathetic towards, and some I actually enjoy. I just think all of them have serious flaws which hold them back for me, whilst they are almost universally loved by a lot of people.

I kid, but I agree with a lot you've said

-The ones I've bolded: I don't think they're well regarded enough to really be considered "overrated". Strange and Ant-Man had good RT scores, but the "average rating" was still in the 7/10 region, which isn't tremendous

-The rest, I fully agree with. DOFP and TDKR I've been over. The DC shows are cheesy nonsense. Agent Carter had one good season and one awful season, and Luke Cage (at least the second half of the season) was definitely the worst of the Netflix Marvel shows, imo.

Since we're moving onto TV shows then I guess I can give my opinion:

The Flash
Supergirl
Gotham

These three DC shows are ok, they're not bad but it's not great television either, they can tedious after awhile when it's "villian of the week" episode but it a good step in the right direction and the SFX on a TV budget is pretty decent.

Arrow (don't care for it)
DC's Legends Of Tomorrow (ditto)
Marvel's Agents Of SHIELD (triple ditto)

I can't comment on the Netflix shows as I don't care to subscibe and having to pay for TV.

That's true, but everything I included is something that I've seen people fervently defend and won't hear a bad word against them.

I sometimes think people have a REALLY skewed and incorrect view of what overrated means when people say it to describe something in entertainment.
