Was hoping for a directors cut. I think a lot of the stuff they cut out would have made the movie more enjoyable IMO. Most of AoU's shortcomings was because everything felt rushed since they tried to cram so much story into a short amount of time. Having those extra scenes may have helped flesh out a lot of the story.

I noticed that as well. It used to be about 3 or 4 months but now it's going to 5. I wonder why they decided to do that.

Have they ever done a director's/extended cut for the MCU movies?

No there hasn't since Disney bought Marvel.

There wasn't any before hand either.

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2.1 is the only Marvel film I'm aware of that has done it at all, besides the new X-Men: Days of Future Past Rogue Cut. I don't know if Raimi was even involved in 2.1, which can happen, the difference between a directors cut and an extended edition.

Of course both of those films are not MCU films.

The Wolverine also had an extended cut which improved on the theatrical cut quite a bit.

Considering how little effort Disney puts into the MCU Blu-ray special features as it is, I doubt we'll ever see any sort of extended cut for any of these movies. In my opinion, the only one that really could have benefitted from an extended cut was Thor: The Dark World.

If they continue this I really don't understand what their reasoning would be.

Don't blame Disney for the lack of an extended cut. The decision to not release one was entirely Whedon's decision.

Quote:
"It has always been my ambition never to do a director’s cut of anything", said Whedon, "and always to make the movie with the studio that we both want to make."

Production on Ultron was famously difficult, which Whedon continues to be frank about.

"Ultron was very complex. There was a lot of back-and-forth. My instinct is no. Just as an artist, I’m super *****ing lazy and that sounds like it would be hard", Whedon joked.

"I don’t think there’s interest in it, right now. You’ll see a bunch of stuff on the DVD in extras that were meant to be there. But the narrative came together very close to the way that I hoped it would, and I don’t think it needs me to constantly tweak it."

Whedon said that the film was one of the most "ridiculously personal things" he'd ever put on screen, and was pleased with the final cut regardless of the pain it took to get there.

"The fact that Marvel gave me that opportunity and supported it, I’m very happy and very proud of everybody that worked on it. I don’t feel the need to go in and fix. I feel like, there she is."

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/07/...-directors-cut
So even if Disney had or did give him the option of doing one he wasn't interested.

And just so y'all know ahead of time, the DVD only has a single short making-of featurette. The deleted scenes and the other special features won't be on the DVD.

He said working with Marvel on AOU, while challenging, was a rewarding experience. At least that's what I got out of what was posted above *shrug*

Ha! Can't believe I forgot The Wolverine, considering I own it!

And yeah people need to stop claiming that the film we finally got was somehow not the one intended to be seen, as Whedon has proved that false in several different interviews now.

When has there ever been an extended cut of a Marvel Studios film on DVD or Blu-ray? It literally never happens. Disney and Marvel just don't do it.

Yeah that does make sense actually. Haven't noticed it. Though AOU supposedly has an alternate ending included in the special features of the dvd. That's probably as good as we're gonna get.

It seems like special features on blu-rays have gone astray period. You use to get over an hour or two of bonus stuff, that's why people bought blu-rays and DVDs in the first place, now you're lucky if you get 30 minutes worth.

The MCU blu-ray features were all pretty good and lengthy until Avengers.

Yeah the Avengers bonus stuff was a real let down. The only good thing was the gag reel.
