I found my father on BoxRec. I had no idea anyone took the time to catalog fighters from way back when. Jackie thought he had a lot of talent as a boxer and was always pushing him to train as hard as he chased women. He told me that he was terribly out of shape in his loss and drained by making the weight (he had to sit in one of those steam thingys for hours to sweat off the water weight so he could make 135 and in those days weigh in was the day of the fight so you couldn't really rehydrate. Jackie made him fight the same guy twice more. He took a couple of years off and was overseas in the service. When he got back, Jackie refused to put him in against better opponents until he showed he was taking things seriously and, of course, he never did so Jackie told him he wouldn't manage/train him anymore. The thing about Jackie was that he didn't use his fighters and wouldn't let them get hurt so he could make a buck. He was a really good guy and him and my father remained friends for many, many years.

I certainly don't listen to Merchant or Atlas. I'm not saying those guys don't know a lot about boxing, but they do say some/a lot of stupid stuff. Foreman I think is pretty good. I'm usually pretty impressed with his analysis so I guess never doesn't always mean never.

I scored the fight 115-113 for Canelo but I had many close rounds. At the end of the day I feel a Draw was a fair call. I want a rematch asap.

Well done on a excellent career but doesn't go down in the legend status. Will make the HOF though.

Yep! Dude has received so much unnecessary hate. But I really don't see him staying retired though. I can see him coming back 2-3 years from now. Him leaving now is just way to early.

Andre Ward is a first ballot hall of fame and a great dude. Great to see him retire in one piece and undefeated.

Is he right?

This has been my biggest argument for those who support GGG and have him as their #1 P4P but bash Deontay. They are the same fighter with the same resume, only one difference and I don't have to elaborate. GGG gets more love from Americans than Deontay who is trying to bring the heavyweight division back, has called out AJ on numerous occasions, while AJ only calls out Tyson Fury. America really does have a problem but people just don't want to admit it.

Didn't see Andre retiring, but it is the hurt business. Probably best to bow out if the lifestyle is no longer what he wants.

I'm one of the biggest Roy Jones fans of all time, I love James Toney and respect Calzaghe, but at 168, Ward is definitely in the discussion of the best ever.

Been like that, unfortunately. Boxing is the one sport where Americans have no problem rooting against their own...

Ward was technically impeccable. Very smart and adaptive. He should've been a bigger star.

I also think Calzaghe was immensely underrated. His absolute demolition of Jeff Lacy is one of the most surprisingly dominant performances I've seen in any sport. Ever. Up until that point people thought Lacy was a monster. If Joe's hands weren't made of glass I think he'd be more respected.

As for Wilder? No way can you compare him and GGG. Wilder technique doesn't begin to approach Golovkin's. And whilst he just fought a prime Canelo, Wilder fights bums like Audley Harrison. I'd love to see him fight AJ. I think it'll happen within 2 years.

Wilder fought Stiverne while GGG fought Canelo and Jacobs. Their resumes are far more similar than people really want to admit.

Welp, there goes the Wilder/Ortiz fight.

Ortiz just tested positive for PEDs again.

Ok.....this is like the second time Wilder has tried to get a big name in the ring that has tested positive out of his last 3 fights. Tell me this isn't like GGG who has "tried to get people in the ring but won't fight him"........again, same thing different name.

I got a feeling Wilder knew something was gonna happen and he agreed to fight Ortiz knowing this outcome was on the cards.

What?! Dude just can't win! He has been calling out AJ(who won't even acknowledge Wilder about unification but calls out Fury after his match), Fury and other big names. He finally got Poventkin(however you spell it)and he tested positive. Same thing with Ortiz. Ortiz is an undefeated fighter. There's no way he would throw his career away at this point of his career by testing positive on purpose for one of the biggest fights of his career. But let's play devil's advocate and say he did. What about fighting Poventkin in his home country? He was willing to do that and even signed for it. Again, I'm not really a Wilder supporter but he was right when he said that Americans bash a certain type of American fighter no matter how humble he is, IE Andre Ward and will even cheer for a loud brash foreigner to see them fall, IE Connor Mcgregor.

Apparently the WBC is looking into creating a Super Heavyweight division for fighters who come in over 250lbs. The argument from them is it's potentially fatal if we have boxer who comes in at 220 vs a boxer coming in at 260 in a heavyweight fight. They will start research on it and decide if its' feasible within a year.

Kind of makes sense but if you think the heavyweight division is watered down, can you imagine the super heavyweight division?
